The next question rolled out. He asked me, “so you are a lit major, what is your favorite book?” It came about an hour into the questioning, which I knew was to determine “my taste.”
broken social scene, aimee mann, emily haines, andrew bird, I go to concerts, I cook often for myself and my friends, I went to UM, I am from Chicago, yes, I grew up in the city just north of here, I drink, I get dressed in the morning, most days quite well I think.
In about 3rd grade, I loved to close my bedroom door, lie on my bed, and read Nancy Drew, with a twix bar. I could finally read a chapter book by myself! I couldn’t touch the genius girl who already received a cake baked by the teacher for reaching so many thousands of pages – she finished little house on the prairie series long ago and was onto loyd Alexander by 4th. But I had found me a new favorite private activity.
I don’t think I have a favorite book. I could possibly make a top 10 list but I would have to be compelled to share. My reading “taste” goes in waves or used to with classes that I took – mostly classics, the summer after the African Caribbean lit class, and now I find myself sorta reading “the omnivore’s dilemna.”
I love to read Nancy Drew.
Her stories aren’t really true.
They have lots of action and good information.
That’s why I like Nancy Drew.

i don't think it's a haiku, but i love the aaba rhyme scheme. fabulous.
'tis indeed a limerick, though it could stand for the kickin-up-a-notch of its lewdness
